Weynton Passage is a major connection between Queen Charlotte Strait and Johnston Strait, both major ocean traffic routes. Orcas pass frequently along these routes since there are about 300 resident orcas seeking fish in this area every summer. The mountain in the background is known locally as The Elephant since it's profile has some resemblance to that mammoth. It serves as a landdmark to the seafarers who travel this route. The painting was done from one of the Steffanson Islets in Weynton Passage.
